Finally finished

I won a wonderful stack of fat quarters in a giveaway in april last year: Carnaby Street by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics.
I decided to use it to make a quilt of hexagons, using the "hex n ruler" (designed by Jaybird). I cut the fat quarters to strips, sewed the strips in pairs and cut into triangles using the ruler. I did buy a little bit of additional Carnaby Street fabric for binding and the half triangles on either side and used a pink fabric with little white flowers for the back.
Thinking of a way to quilt it took me a while. I decided to use a standard 1/4"line, enhancing the hexagon shapes. It turned out nice, I think...

Today was a nice day for photographs and I have been wanting to photograph a this spot ever since I discovered it (only two streets from my house...).

Quilt as you go... again

A facebook-challenge  (post a picture of an artwork by an artist assigned to you) helped me discover this baby-quilt made by Sonia Delaunay. I love it! I knew some of her work, but not this. Look at the bright colors and shapes.

When it was finished, the arrangement of the pieces of material seemed to me to evoke cubist conceptions and we then tried to apply the same process to other objects and paintings.” – Sonia Delaunay

I got inspired and made another quilt-as-you-go pillow. Only solids this time. It does not even come close to what Sona Delaunay accomplished in her quilt, but I still like it...

I love quilt-as-you-go!

It turns out I need holidays to be able to finish some projects... Hope this new year will bring me some time to do more, because it is so satisfying to sit behind the sewingmachine in my attic.

I managed to finish two pillows in the "quilt-as-you-go"-technique I discovered this fall. I love it, but it does take time.
First result:

The fabrics were in my stash. The stripes were originally a table runner, the purple fabric was left over from a dress I made. On the back is mostly purple with a little pink. The picture is a bit blurred, but I love the little deer I put in the corner, so forgive me for that. (I already gave the pillow to my sister. Fortunately she loved it!) The deer are all echino-fabrics.

I finished another one for myself, but haven't photographed it yet. It's mostly GREEN.

Fall break: craft time!

I'm enjoying a short fall break, one week of sewing, knitting and crochet. And a short trip to Berlin as well. Lucky me!

The sewing resulted in a new bag and a small wallet... just in time to take to Berlin.
Some of the fabric was bought on previous trips to New York and Tokyo (!) and others around the corner in my hometown and "worktown".  Nice to see how they match.

The technique of quilting in straight lines and adding fabric on the go I got from the "Oh Fransson-blog" by Elizabeth Hartman. I loved it! It is really easy and gives a nice texture.

The sewing of the snap closure was not as easy as I expected. I must admit some of the thread is showing on the inside. But don't you love the deer with the glasses?! Fabric bought in Tokyo as well.

 

 

Maybe I can find some nice fabric in Berlin as well... mmm... were to go?! 

Summerproject no 1...finished

wanted to finish this before leaving on a holiday to England... that did not happen. So now I'm back and...did it!

I bought the Melody Miller "Ruby Star Shining" fabric when I was in New York in januari, thinking of using it for a quilt, but the bright red in this fabric just didn't speak to me when I got it home...so I cut of those parts. Cut out the typewriter and used "Vliesofix" to put it on the top. Used a linen-cotton blend and some kona for the rest of the bag.

Now I'm thinking about using the rest of the fabric for a picnic-blanket...since it is a firmer kind of fabric. But I'm out of the linen-cotton, so shopping first!!!

Blue bicycles

A new quilt... this one was a puzzle for me. Improvising as I went along. I love how it turned out and learned a lot about planning a quilt, I hope.

Bought the Kokka fabric with the bicycles in New York, found the purple print in my stash (I think it's Eva, by Basic Grey), bought some sollids at Hawthorn thread and the red dots and blue print (Windham, Indigo) at Quilt it & Dotty. Used the Windham-fabric for the back as well, I love it!

To sash

Remember the "to sash or not to sash"-question...well...

I decided to sash the wonky cross blocks. It gives it more structure and I like that.

I have forgotten to take pictures of the back...

I used a piece of indonisian batik that I had "lying around" ;-)

Finally finished

It took me ages to finish this quilt. Quilted by hand!

All fabric Kaffe Fassett and the solids are Kona.

and now I'd like a "how to photograph my quilt-course"...

Thinking about a new project

Is this going to be it?

Little embroidery figures I made last year (including a "Julie Jackson" in Dutch) combined with some red fabrics. I need more fabric :-)  

  

And I need a design... blocks, some sort of log cabin maybe...

To sash or not to sash

Started when I found the yellow print in a stack of Tula Pink fat quarters I bought some time ago, but never got around to using...the colors in it were too bright for my taste. Now I decided to use them separately and the yellow one "spoke" to me. Found some turquoise and yellow charms to match. The turquoise print is from De Haan & Wagemakers. Need to find another matching print... and need to decide whether or not to add sashing between blocks.

A little project...

some Kaffe Fassett and solid scraps, some batting and a flexi frame, et voilà!

Finished quilt... oh no... unfinished quilt...

 I discovered a Kaffe Fassett print I loved and found some sollid charms that matched perfectly... so a quilt was planned and finished the week before Christmas: 

I used a cotton-wool filling... and washed it... after that it looked like this:

oopsss... All the quilted lines had to come out, the filling is out and now I can start over.

 How to prevent this from happening again?!

workshop

I joined a workshop at a little shop called "Elle aime". Made buttons, a pocketmirror and...this little "envelop" for tissues. Love the fabric by mikodesign. She taught us how to make this....

Is this a good present for a 1-year old?

The ears could/should have been a bit bigger maybe...

Quick project

Since I bought a new smartphone I needed a nice cover for it...of course

I made it in less than 2 hours and used only scraps, including some Kaffe Fassett.

for my niece... made with Ann Kelle's Urban Zoologie and some Kona Sollids.

I have to start taking better pictures, but I couldn't wait to give it to her! And it was raining cats and dogs...so this had to do...

My sister loved the owl-print and I combined it with some others to give it some variation.

Starting a blog

How do you start a blog? Who will read it? And why?
I want to try and start a blog about my textile-projects: mostly quilts, some embroidery and some knitting, chochet. Let us see where it ends...
